Multiple Time Champion and Ice Wars Winner Joins Topeka Hockey’s Inaugural Season

Today the Topeka Scarecrows of the Federal Prospects Hockey League are proud to announce they have signed Defenseman Justin Schmit as the first signing for the Scarecrows.


Schmit, a 39-year-old defenseman from Strathmore,AB, joins the Scarecrows after a championship season with Granby in the LHSAAAQ. Over the past four seasons Justin’s teams have made the playoffs three times. As a veteran in the league Justin’s experience and leadership as well as his edge bring a much-needed piece to the first-year franchise.

“The signing of Justin Schmit shows that the Topeka Scarecrows definitely will not be pushed around. A signing like Justin makes every player on our team a lot bigger. We look for his championship pedigree and professional hockey experience to be passed along to his teammates as we build towards a historic run here in Topeka.” Head Coach Robbie Nichols said of the signing.

In addition to Justin’s pro time in the FPHL Schmit has also spent time in the SPHL, CHL, Chinook HL, NCHL, and RHL. Justin is also an MMA fighter fighting for Apex MMA.
